The
Barbara Rosen Creative Arts Fund
Barbara Rosen was a talented artist in
a wide variety of media: drawing, painting, sculpture,
stained glass, mosaics, quilting and tapestries. Barbara
was also a gifted poet. Her first published poem was “One
God” and appeared in an anthology, “Between
the Bookends” in 1934. Thin Mask, a book of her
poems, was published in 1939 by Crown Publications, New
York.
As her granddaughter, Barbara profoundly
impacted my life and the creation of
Camp Phoenix – an organization dedicated to providing
free of cost arts programs to underserved youth in Texas.
The Barbara Rosen Creative Arts Fund is my way of honoring
my grandmother’s legacy of creativity.
One hundred percent of gifts given to
the Barbara Rosen Fund will fund two free of cost
creative arts programs provided by Camp Phoenix:
1) Weekday classes in creative writing
and visual art at the Boys and Girls Club of the Highland
Lakes – a year-round opportunity for rural youth
in need.
2) Weekend retreats devoted to meeting
the needs of emotionally troubled rural youth using
the therapeutic arts. We offer 12 weekend retreats per
year, two overnights per weekend. Retreats are held
at The Retreat at Candlelight
Ranch (www.candlelightranch.org).
The Fund will be used for fine arts materials
