Camp Phoenix is named after the symbolic phoenix bird.  The story of the phoenix bird is told in Christianity and numerous cultures throughout the world.  It is a human story of triumph over adversity, resurrection and faith.  Out of the ashes of despair, the phoenix is said to be reborn and hope renewed.

When the dream of creating Camp Phoenix became a reality, I named the Camp after the Phoenix because like the symbolic bird, former youth I have worked with have been transformed and empowered through the arts and outdoors.

Camp Phoenix is an innovative model of programming designed to promote physical and mental health through the expressive arts, and wellness and outdoor programs – it is a retreat for the child.

We offer two free of cost services:

  1. Weekday outreach classes provided to local children and families at no cost. The Phoenix Center offers six programs weekly and year-round: yoga, dance, art and music.
  2. Weekend camp sessions at The Retreat at Candlelight Ranch six sessions per year, year-round.

As camp ends, the growth continues. Youth are given materials and tools such as a journal and knowledge of breathing and stress reduction exercises to use in their home. Campers will also be invited to return to camp as well as to participate in our weekly classes at the Phoenix Center and the Boys and Girls Club in Marble Falls, Texas.

At the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC, the following is etched into the building:

Thou shall not be a victim.  Thou shall not be a perpetrator.
Above all, thou shall not be a bystander.

Thank you for making the dream of Camp Phoenix a reality.

With our deepest appreciation for your support of our mission,

Sarah Rosen Garrett and the Camp Phoenix Board of Directors
